Curating and Textile Design
On going project
London, UK
This textile project explores Taiwanese cultural identity through the lens of democratic progress. By reexamining and decolonising Taiwanese history, this project seeks to push the boundaries of textile art within the context of dinner table dialogues. Inspired by pivotal student movements in Taiwan's journey towards democracy, such as the Wild Lily and Sunflower movements, this piece combines multiple weaving and knotting techniques to create a multifunctional art object—a table runner that doubles as a flower frog. Each facade weaves together into a complete surface, from points to lines, to planes.
The project aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse surrounding Taiwanese cultural identity by crafting a visual representation that captures its contemporary essence. By intertwining historical narratives with modern textile practices, this work serves as a tactile and symbolic exploration of Taiwan's complex social and political landscape. Through this creative reinterpretation of cultural artefacts, the project invites viewers to engage in meaningful conversations about Taiwan's past, present, and future, all while seated at the dinner table—a universal space for communion and exchange.
